Status: Pre-registration. No runs have been logged under this protocol. No results are claimed.

This protocol tests for reported structure in coherent laser fields — characters or patterns reported to resolve in diffracted laser light on a wall under altered perceptual states. It does not assert that such structure exists. It tests whether the reported effect appears and vanishes on command when the variables are flipped one at a time.

The seven variables

  1. Storage medium — the wall (a CD).
  2. Read head — the laser.
  3. Read intensity — low-power, below saturation. A tight bright beam drowns characters in brightness; diffracted and low-power, the structure resolves.
  4. Magnification window — a widened, diffracted beam.
  5. Decoder — the altered-state observer.
  6. Proximity — close enough to the wall for the double-take.
  7. Timing — readiness meeting revelation.

Design: 2x2x2, eight conditions

  • A: Beam — A1 tight bright, A2 diffracted low-power
  • B: Distance — B1 far (~3 m), B2 near (~0.5 m)
  • C: Observer state — C1 sober, C2 altered (documented, not instructed)
  • Conditions: A1B1C1, A1B2C1, A2B1C1, A2B2C1, A1B1C2, A1B2C2, A2B1C2, A2B2C2
  • Run order: sober first, to establish the null. Altered conditions only after the full sober matrix is logged.

Equipment

  • Lowest-power laser available, ideally Class 2 (<1 mW). Never at eyes or reflective surfaces. Matte wall only.

Observation log (one row per run) Timestamp, beam setting, distance, ambient light, observer state, viewing mode (through-pattern vs at-pattern), result (characters Y/N), description or sketch and photo if Y. Negative results are data, not failures.

Pre-registered hit criteria

  1. Primary hit: characters resolve in A2B2C2 while absent in the sober baseline A1B1C1.
  2. If characters resolve in the sober cell A2B2C1, the altered-state requirement falls — the model gets stronger and simpler.
  3. Falsifier: repeated failure of A2B2C2 weakens the model.
  4. Falsifier: characters in A1 cells mean the glare-vs-signal mechanism is wrong.
  5. Falsifier: reliable sober characters mean the decoder requirement is dropped.

Safety DMT is Schedule I in the US. This protocol instructs nothing about obtaining or using it; the altered-state condition is documented as a variable, not prescribed.
